Bike track moves a step nearer.
From : Nunawading Gazette, 1981-82?.

The big question for young local BMX (Bicycle Moto Cross) riders in Blackburn is Will our track be ready in time for the
May holidays next month?
Riders, parents and friends were happier last week when Nunawading Council showed signs of fulfilling its promises made
some months ago to grade a track on a site on creekside land north of Koonung Road, Blackburn North.

Local parent Mr K. Winchester said last week that the large number of local BMX riders had been bitterly disappointed in
recent months when there had been no follow-up to preliminary grading work started on the site many months ago.

A circular track of 150 metres was proposed but could not be opened for riding until much more earth fill work and
grading was undertaken.
Mr Winchester said more filling had been supplied last week and it was now hoped that the main work might be completed
by the next school holidays.

Town clerk Mr E.J. Jane said project commitments at the transfer station in Vermont South had delayed completion of the
work started some time ago. Filling was now becoming available from other works in the Terrara Road area and it was hoped
this would overcome the problem.

Mr Winchester said it was estimated that about 100 young people with BMX bikes would use the
track but there might be more once the track was opened.
